First Bike Race - DONE!

Yesterday JD and I did our first bike race.  It was awesome!    We've been doing spin for at least a year, but we've only been riding on the road since July 4th this year.   When we were in the Trek store recently another rider handed us a pamphlet about this race.  You could do 25 mile, 50 or 100 mile.  JD and I talked about it and thought well let's wait and see.   We haven't been riding all that much lately with our work schedule and me getting sick for 2 weeks.  Thursday we finally said let's do it!  So we entered into the 25 mile.  We managed to get our co-workers to cover our shifts for us.  The ride was at Blue Mountain in Collingwood.  It's an hour away from our house.  We had to leave our house by 5:00 am to get there in time.  The race itself started at 7:30.

It was crazy!!!  There was over 300 racers there for the 25 mile race.  A large number of them were going to be riding in the 50 or 100 mile race today.  So there were some very serious riders there.  Then there is JD and I...Rookie's!!

It was the coolest thing I think I've ever done.  The bell rings to start the race and your heart just starts pumping.  It was pandemonium!  Everyone is jostling for the right spot for them.  You're weaving in and out of people to try to get into your flow of a ride.   And then the realization that you have 40 km's (25 ml) to complete, sinks in!   And you think WTH have I signed myself in for?  But I finished!  And in not to bad of time I think.  1 hour and 35 minutes.  Considering the #1 racer did it in 1 hour 8 minutes, I feel pretty good about that.

Now for my next challenge... Triathlon!  My try a tri class starts on Tuesday!  Well okay my forever challenge for my body is to get pregnant and stay pregnant, but this physical stuff, I get to CONTROL!

Much Love!

Congrats on the bike race! And fantastic that you're doing a tri. They are such great fun. And it sounds like you've got the bike part down! My last tri was a half-Ironman in Cancun (of course this is now 3 years ago). I did it with a friend and I still really can't believe I did it. She's trying to convince me to do another half next summer....we'll see. It's a lot of training, but I really felt the benefit to my body (especially my running knee) of training in all 3 sports. I'm not sure I'm the world's greatest triathlete (ha! not even close!) but let me know if I can help in any way with any questions or anything.
